Chapter I
The 8×8 framework
The 8×8 system is a strategy-first framework. Begin with one commander and thirty-five lands; what remains are sixty-four spells, organised into eight categories of eight. Four of those categories are primary — ramp, card draw, removal, wraths — forming a reliability floor that keeps the deck running regardless of how commander-specific the rest gets. The remaining four are yours to spend on the synergy your commander wants to live in.
The Golden Recipe
= 64 spells · 35 lands · 1 commander · 100 cards
Primary Strategies
Cards that increase your available mana beyond the normal one land per turn. The engine that lets you cast your spells on time.
Cards that provide card advantage — access to additional playable cards beyond the normal one per turn. Keeps the deck flowing.
Targeted interaction that deals with specific threats. Your primary way to keep opponents in check.
Wide-scale removal and board resets. Essential for recovering from losing positions and re-entering games.
